THE LEGENDS COLLECTION · VOLUME ONE
Alan Scotthorne MBE
The Five-Time World Champion
Five World Titles. One Extraordinary Angler.
A PERSONAL TRIBUTE
A Champion Among Champions
In the world of international match fishing, few names command greater respect than Alan Scotthorne MBE. To become World Champion once is an extraordinary achievement. To win the individual title five times places Alan in a class of his own.
But my tribute is about more than trophies and medals. It is also about the angler I first met many years ago, the remarkable career I have watched unfold, and the respect that exists between fellow competitors.
WHERE OUR PATHS FIRST CROSSED
Ireland, 1986 — The Beginning of a Remarkable Story
I first met Alan in Ireland in 1986. At the time, neither of us could have known quite what the years ahead would bring.
Over the decades I have watched Alan establish himself as one of the most accomplished match anglers the sport has ever produced. What has always impressed me is not simply the number of championships he has won, but the skill, concentration and consistency required to remain at the very top.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Five Times World Champion
Alan’s five individual World Championship titles stand as one of the greatest achievements in international match fishing.
1996 · 1997 · 1998 · 2003 · 2007
Great champions win. Exceptional champions keep finding a way to win again.
A DEFINING VICTORY
Peschiera, 1996
Alan’s first individual World Championship victory came at Peschiera in Italy in 1996.
His mastery of float fishing, including the waggler, was part of the skill that made him such a formidable international competitor. That first title was only the beginning of a remarkable run of success.
BEHIND THE CHAMPION
Alan and Sandra
Alan Scotthorne and his partner, Sandra Halkon Hunt.
Any tribute to Alan would be incomplete without acknowledging Sandra Halkon Hunt, his partner and a respected name in angling in her own right.
Behind the public celebrations and championship victories are the friendships, encouragement and shared experiences that make a lifetime in fishing so special.
A FRIENDSHIP THROUGH FISHING
Still Meeting at the Water’s Edge
Clive Branson and Alan Scotthorne sharing a conversation many years after their first meeting.
One of the great pleasures of a lifetime in match fishing is that the friendships and conversations continue long after the championships themselves.
Meeting Alan again at Riverfest in 2026 reminded me how much history we share through this wonderful sport. I was delighted when he gave me permission to include him in this collection.
THE STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC
Why I Wrote This Song
I wanted to celebrate Alan Scotthorne not merely as a five-time World Champion, but as an angler whose dedication and achievements have inspired generations.
Having first met Alan in 1986, I have had the privilege of seeing his career develop over many years. His achievements deserve to be remembered, and music offers another way of telling that story.
This is my tribute to a remarkable champion and to the lasting memories that make match fishing such an important part of my life.
