After more than sixty years in angling, I realised that I had been fortunate enough to know, compete against, learn from and admire some of the greatest anglers our sport has ever produced.
This book is my personal record of those remarkable people — the champions, innovators, characters, friends and heroes whose achievements and personalities helped shape my own lifetime in fishing.
The Stories Behind the Legends
This is not simply a collection of biographies. It is the story of the anglers as I remember them.
Some were people I fished alongside and competed against. Some became good friends. Others were heroes whose ideas, achievements and personalities influenced me from afar.
Together their stories provide a personal journey through more than half a century of angling history.

Why I Wrote It
As the years passed, I became increasingly aware that many of the great names I remembered so clearly were becoming unfamiliar to younger generations of anglers.
I wanted to record not only what these anglers achieved, but something of the people themselves — their characters, their humour, their rivalries and the memories that statistics alone can never capture.

From the Page to the Music
The book became the inspiration for something I had never originally imagined — telling these stories through music.
Each original song takes the story of an individual legend and brings it to life in a new way. Photographs and film are then combined with the music to create a lasting tribute to the anglers and the era they represent.
